Unlearning the Architecture of Habit.

Deconstructing elite architectural theory through the visceral reality of manual craft and material witness

I am a UK-based researcher and practitioner working across architecture, craft, writing, and documentation. My work investigates the built environment as a material record of human care, examining how historic buildings retain evidence of labour, repair, and long-term stewardship.

Through handmade objects, spatial studies, and visual documentation, I explore the intelligence embedded in architectural fabric. Exploring medieval timber and masonry systems to the material logic of pre-modern construction. This research foregrounds building as an evolving record of technical knowledge and embodied practice.

Central to my practice is an interest in maintenance as a cultural and architectural condition. I examine how knowledge is transmitted through acts of repair, and how these systems of understanding are increasingly fragmented within contemporary building practice and conservation frameworks. Across writing, installation, and object-making, I produce work that operates as both research and material evidence. Tracing the social, environmental, and technical conditions that shape the ongoing life of buildings.

Objects Made Through Research.

Handmade brushes and ceramics designed to hold presence and purpose. These pieces function as a mineralogical collection harvested from urban mining and environmental stewardship.

Hand-Turned Brush | Wide Bulbous Form
£65.00

A fuller, more sculptural variation of a wide round form, turned from reclaimed oak and stained a deep black. Its bulbous profile sits warmly in the hand, providing a natural anchor point for slow, controlled movements. These natural fibres have gentle resilience, suitable for general use and also working with clay, plaster, dry pigment, and surface preparation process.

Designed for precision-oriented surface work and general purpose.

Stain is natural-oil based and sealed for durability.

Made individually, where tonal depth may vary subtly.

Please note: Each brush is handmade using natural fibres and may shed lightly during early use, this is normal and part of working with organic materials. These brushes are not designed to be submerged in water or used for washing-up tasks, as prolonged soaking can compromise the timber and setting of the fibres. Light rinsing and careful surface cleaning is suitable, though avoid leaving the brush in any kind of water for extended periods

All orders require 2-3 working days to be processed. As each item is handmade and individually packed, this period ensures the work is checked, finished, and prepared for safe delivery

Hand-Turned Brush | Large Round Head
£58.00

Turned from reclaimed oak, this large round-headed brush carries a generous cluster of Arena Fibre bristles, selected for their spring, durability, and capacity to hold both slip and glaze with consistency. The rounded form encourages broad sweeping applications and supports work that benefits from gestural coverage rather than fine detail. Equally suited for careful surface cleaning, clay, plaster, gesso, ink, dry pigment, wax, printmaking, and textile application. The fibres offers a responsive balance of spring and softness, making each brush a precise tool for both applying and removing material.

Its reclaimed timber handle retains a visible grain that speaks to previous lives before being reshaped for contemporary use.

Suitable for general purpose, glazing, slip application, textured mark-making, or dry surface application.

Each handle varies slightly according to the character of the reclaimed oak.

Finished with a light protective coating to preserve the feel without masking the grain.
